ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – A state canvassing board has certified two New Mexico Senate candidates who survived recounts in tight primary races.

The Albuquerque Journal reports that Clemente Sanchez of Grants will be the Democratic nominee on the Nov. 6 general election ballot in District 30 and Cliff Pirtle is the Republican nominee in District 32.

Sanchez picked up two additional votes in the District 30 recount to defeat lawyer Maxine Velasquez, his niece, by 11 votes.

The incumbent, Democratic Sen. David Ulibarri of Grants, placed third. Sanchez will run against former Albuquerque City Councilor Vickie Perea, a Republican who now lives in Belen.

Pirtle won the District 32 GOP primary by beating Chad Hamill by 10 votes.

He’ll run against Senate President Pro Tem Tim Jennings, a Democrat from Roswell.
