The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is preparing to run ads in New Mexico and has booked airtime there beginning next week, two media-tracking sources tell me.
The Republican-leaning, pro-business group has reserved time for ads between July 17 and 26.
New Mexico is home to a potentially competitive U.S. Senate race between former GOP Rep. Heather Wilson and Democratic Rep. Martin Heinrich. Both candidates have received significant support from outside groups: Wilson from Crossroads GPS and Heinrich from a coalition of environmental organizations that have teamed up to support his campaign.
A spokeswoman for the Chamber had no comment on any imminent plans in New Mexico or whether they might be related to the Senate election, writing in an email Monday evening: “We don’t have anything to announce tonight.”
