NEWPORT, R.I. — Robert W. Bauer, a teenager who was arrested with the son of Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse last month, pleaded not guilty this morning to a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana.
Bauer, 18, of Portsmouth, entered his plea in Second District Court. His case was continued to Sept. 7 for a pretrial conference.
On the morning of July 25, Bauer and Alexander Whitehouse, 19, were arrested by Middletown police outside a convenience store. Whitehouse, whose blood-alcohol level was slightly above the legal limit of .08, was charged with driving while impaired, while Bauer was charged with marijuana possession and possession of alcohol by someone under 21, a Municipal Court violation.
Whitehouse pleaded no contest to the drunken-riving charge two weeks ago.
